5 Yoga Poses to Release Negative Emotions

Here are 5 yoga poses that gently help release negative emotions, ease tension, and restore inner balance:

1. Child’s Pose (Balasana)

Benefits: Calms the nervous system, soothes anxiety, and encourages introspection.

How to do it: Sit back on your heels, fold forward, rest your forehead on the mat. Place your arms alongside your body or extended in front of you.

2. Cat-Cow Pose (Marjaryasana-Bitilasana)

Benefits: Loosens tension in the spine and gently helps process suppressed emotions.

How to do it: Come onto all fours. Inhale as you arch your back (Cow), exhale as you round your spine (Cat). Continue with a slow, steady breath.

3. Pigeon Pose (Eka Pada Rajakapotasana)

Benefits: Opens the hips—an area where emotional tension such as fear and resentment often accumulates.

How to do it: Bring one leg forward, extend the other straight behind you, and fold your torso down. Stay connected to your breath.

4. Supine Twist (Supta Matsyendrasana)

Benefits: Releases tension in the lower back, calms the mind, and supports emotional release.

How to do it: Lying on your back, cross one leg over your body. Extend your arms out to the sides, and gently turn your gaze in the opposite direction.

5. Corpse Pose (Shavasana)

Benefits: Promotes deep relaxation, emotional integration, and a shift into a grounded, peaceful state.

How to do it: Lie flat on your back with arms and legs relaxed. Close your eyes and breathe naturally, allowing your whole body to soften.

Your body is your temple.
