5 Essential Oils for Hair Growth

To correct and stop hair loss, you need to focus on normalizing hormones, managing stress, and nourishing the scalp and hair folicles with essential oils. Remember that if you don’t address the uderlying cause, your hair may continue to thin. Hair doesn’t start falling out without a reason – there is always an underlying cause.

Lavender essential oil

Peppermint essential oil

Rosemary essential oil

Cedarwood essential oil

Tea tree essential oil

Lavender essential oil

Want to get the very best of lavender oil’s hair growth and scalp benefits? Massage diluted lavender oil onto your scalp.

You can dilute lavender essential oil with a carrier oil, such as jojoba or coconut oil. You should mix the essential oil and carrier oil in equal parts.

This is best to do following a bath or shower. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes and then rinse out afterward. You can leave it in overnight with your hair wrapped in a towel if you want maximum benefits. You’ll also experience lavender’s calming and lovely scent as well as some scalp-healing effects.

Oil massaging anywhere from once per week to once per day works well. I recommend lavender oils from doTERRA.

Peppermint essential oil

Like all essential oils, peppermint oil should not be used in concentrated form as it can cause severe skin irritation. Generally, mint essential oil is an irritant, so cosmetics should only be used after a preliminary test on a small area of skin.

Peppermint oil can be used for hair in various ways:

1. Combing: Put 2-3 drops of oil on a wooden comb and comb your hair. This will make your hair soft and shiny, and the light mint aroma will last all day.

2. Scalp Massage: Mix peppermint oil with a base oil and massage it into your scalp. This massage increases blood flow to the skin and strengthens hair follicles, making hair stronger. This method is recommended for those experiencing hair loss.

3. For Oily Hair Care: Add a couple of drops of peppermint oil to your shampoo while showering. Wash your hair as usual. After shampooing, it is recommended to rinse your hair with a mint infusion or apply conditioner with added peppermint oil.

Rosemary essential oil

Like peppermint essential oil, which is used to stimulate hair growth, rosemary essential oil increases blood circulation. This can prevent hair follicles from being starved of blood supply, leading to their death and shedding. In addition to stimulating hair growth, rosemary essential oil is used to prevent premature graying and dandruff. It can also help with dry or itchy scalp.

According to some scientific data, rosemary may benefit nervous tissue. Carnosic acid, the active ingredient in the plant, heals tissues and nerve endings. This ability to heal nerve endings can also rejuvenate the nerves in the scalp, potentially restoring hair growth.

Cedarwood essential oil

The word “cedar” translated means “spiritual power.” Cedar has long symbolized strength and unshakable faith. It was used for religious purposes for fumigation, and the Egyptians used it in the mummification process.

Cedar essential oil offers several medicinal properties beneficial for hair care and skin treatments. It helps eliminate dandruff, stimulates hair growth, and prevents baldness. Additionally, it treats seborrhea, a condition characterized by excessive oiliness and flaking of the scalp.

Beyond hair care, cedar essential oil is used in various skincare products. It is a common ingredient in aftershave creams for men and mattifying products for oily skin. It is also included in hair masks, ointments for treating scratches, and remedies for ulcers on the body.

Tea tree essential oil

Tea tree oil is renowned for its beneficial effects on hair health and appearance. Known as a “natural doctor,” this Australian plant has healing properties that can enhance the shine and natural brightness of your hair. Including tea tree oil in your beauty routine can offer significant cosmetic benefits.

To use tea tree oil at home, you only need 1-2 drops per 100 g of any hair product. Mix it thoroughly with the product and leave it on your hair for up to 15 minutes. For optimal results, combine tea tree oil with organic and natural cosmetics like honey, clay masks, and scrubs.
